What is your role at Platinum and what does your day-to-day look like? I work in the sales team, my day-to-day involves a lot of listening and problemsolving to get my customers what they need, when they need it. Whether that’s over email, phone or face-to-face. With such a wide range of products, it is a varied job. How long have you been working in this industry, and what drew you to it? Hmm, 27 years. I honestly thought I’d be in Print 3 months (if I got through the probationary period) After messing around as a chef working weekend split shifts I needed a change. I saw an advert for a print finisher, unsure what that was but blinded by the option for day shift, more money I was all over it. Armed with a Diploma in Art and Design I thought why not give it a try! What do you enjoy most about your job? I do like coffee meetings and lunches! Getting to know people and trying not to talk about work. I do like seeing the monthly figures too! What skills or qualities do you think are essential for success in your role? I have no idea, I’m totally winging it! I don’t like hearing NO and always try to find a solution while treating people how I would want to be treated. What’s your favourite way to spend your free time? Running or Cycling if I’m injured. It is a lifelong thing, there is nothing I would rather do or talk about. Ideally in the mountain but even road works. I love it, luckily my wife’s the same and is just as keen. It seems even our kids are finding their way in these amazing sports too (just not with us). What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know? I had a long bike ride with Andrew Ridgley from Wham once. Do you have a favourite travel destination or a dream place you’d like to visit? Not really, I’d love to explore our island more. Italy is pretty cool and we’ve been to a few places already. Fingers crossed for NY next year to do the Marathon. Adidas once had a campaign about travelling the world 26.2 miles (marathon distance) at a time. I like the idea of that. If you weren’t in this profession, what would you be doing? NO clue, that’s why I am here! If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you bring? Just the Family! I don’t need anything else, presuming the sands soft enough to run on barefoot! Spotlight Meet Ben, Our expert Sales Rep.
