Turn Back the Years in York The day begins with a gentle walk on the 14th century walls from Monk Bar to Bootham Bar. Wonderful views of the Minster, the Treasurer’s House and many parts of “old” York can be seen from these walls. A short walk from Bootham Bar takes us to the Minster itself where we will join a guided tour which includes climbing the steps of the winding tower passing medieval pinnacles and gothic gargoyles before stepping out into the open air to experience the best panoramic views of the city centre, the hidden alleyways and beyond to the beautiful surrounding Yorkshire countryside. Then it will be time to relax at the “Star in the City” restaurant and enjoy a leisurely lunch by the banks of the river Ouse just near Lendal Bridge, built in 1863 to replace the local ferry service. After lunch the choice is yours – either some serious shopping in the Shambles and York City centre or a gentle tour of the beautifully and quirkily restored Treasurer’s House, once owned by the Minster, now a national treasure. We will gather in the café below stairs at the Treasurer’s House for a cup of Yorkshire tea before rejoining the coach for our journey back to Harrogate. www.starinthecity.co.uk www.nationaltrust.org.uk/treasurers-house-york www.yorkminster.org
