Aqua was established in Leeds by Julie Lingard
and has since become an international must-wear
label, selling out on Asos.com and helping launch the
career of designer James Steward, who now dresses
celebrities for red carpet events.
Other names to watch are Bozena Carter of Bo
Carter, last year awarded Best Local Designer at the
Retail Awards, and former Aqua designer Lisa Jayne
Dann, who has been described as ‘the queen of Leeds
independent fashion’. Both sell collections in Bird’s
Yard, an indie mecca in the city centre, which stocks
three foors of designer and vintage wares from some
of Leeds’ hottest fashion names.
Leeds label Antiform has put the city on
the ethical fashion map recently, with designer
Lizzie Harrison’s collections appearing in national
magazines and stocked throughout the country,
as well as in local boutiques ReMade in Leeds
in Hyde Park and Mad Elizabeth in the historic
Corn Exchange.

Te city plays host to all the big name labels,
whether in its branches of high-end stores Harvey
Nichols and Flannels or stand-alone boutiques like
Louis Vuitton, Vivienne Westwood and Mulberry.
