LUNCH AT BETTYS
WITH SUSAN RUMFITT
We are delighted to announce lunch at Bettys in the Imperial Room,
Parliament Street on Tuesday 10th February with our speaker, the
well-known jewellery specialist Susan Rum tt.
Susan is an accredited lecturer for the National Association of
Decorative and Fine Arts Societies and lectures for a large number
of organisations including Goldsmith’s Hall and the “Friends of the
Victoria and Albert Museum”, as well as holding her own jewellery
courses in Harrogate and throughout the UK. Susan also writes
for Homes and Antiques and Antique Collecting magazines. Susan
spent the early part of her career working for Christie’s auctioneers
and then moved to Phillip’s in London where she was in charge of
one of their jewellery departments.

Anyone attending the lecture is invited to bring their jewellery along
to nd out more about the history or even value of their items.
GLITZY APRES SKI PARTY
CHRISTMAS 2013
Acorn’s Apres Ski Christmas party which took place in a PapaKata tent
at Ripley raised over £22,000 bringing the total raised by the charity
in 2013 to almost £105,000 which was our highest ever annual total.
The evening was attended by 431 guests who enjoyed dinner by well-
known chef, Michael Kernall, an auction and grand draw followed by
dancing. The auction was conducted by TimWaring of Knight Frank and
prizes in the auction and grand draw included a skiing holiday in the
French Alps, overnight stays at the Hotel du Vin, Harrogate, the Jumeirah
Carlton Tower Hotel
in London and a
diamond
pendant
kindly donated by
Berry’s Jewellers.
TENNIS ACES PLAY
FOR CHARITY
AGA DEMONSTRATION
On Wednesday 26th May the Aga Shop in Harrogate held an evening
for Acorn in conjunction with Caine orist and Swinton Park Cookery
school attended by 20 guests raising £350.00
The evening kicked o with a marvellous ower demonstration from
Lance at Caine, a long-serving supporter of Acorn who produced a
huge hand-tied bouquet, which
was later won in the ra e by Mrs
Liz Ibbitson. Stephen Bulmer,
Chef Director of Swinton Park
Cookery School, followed with
a delicious three-course dinner
demonstration. Grateful thanks to
Jean Williams of the Aga Shop for
generously hosting the evening.

Party
The annual tennis tournament was held at Ripon Tennis Centre
raising £660 in June. It was held in memory of Jim Jackson who was
a keen tennis player and helped to develop the club at Ripon and
who died of Alzheimer’s a few years ago. The trophy for the winners
was donated by his widow, Janet Burton who is also a keen player.
A record eighteen couples entered the tournament from clubs all
over North Yorkshire with the nal eventually contested by Ann
Wilson and Andy Lambert of Bedale Tennis Club against Kim Wood
and Steve Jones from Ripon Tennis Centre. Ann and Andy came
out eventual winners with semi- nalists Sally Monkman and John
Topping from the Academy, Harrogate and Katherine Bayliss and
Audrey Reed from Almscli e completing the list of prize winners on
the day.
Ripon Tennis Centre generously donated their facilities on the day.
Acorn Chairman Louise Hanen said, ‘We had a great day with some
excellent tennis matches and the standard improves year on year.
A big thank you must go to all who helped make the day a really
happy occasion’.
